Common questions

What temperature is too hot to walk a dog?

Take care from about 25 °C (77 °F), especially in the sun or with high humidity; above about 30 °C (86 °F) walk only early morning or late evening on grass or shade.

What are the signs of heatstroke?

Heavy panting, drooling, red gums, weakness, vomiting and collapse. Move the dog to shade, cool with cool (not ice-cold) water and go to a vet straight away.

Is cold weather a risk too?

Small, thin-coated, young and old dogs feel cold quickly. Below about 0 °C (32 °F) keep walks short; below about -10 °C (14 °F) be very careful and watch paws for ice and salt.
