Dog Age Calculator: Dog Years to Human Years
The old "multiply by 7" rule is wrong: dogs grow up very fast in their first two years, and big dogs age faster than small ones after that. This calculator uses the size-based chart vets use.

Common questions
Is one dog year really seven human years?
No. A one-year-old dog is closer to a 15-year-old teenager, and the yearly rate later depends on size: about 4 human years for small dogs and 6–7 for large and giant dogs.
When is a dog a senior?
Large and giant dogs around 6–7 years, medium dogs around 8, small dogs around 9–10. From then on, a check-up every six months helps catch problems early.
Why do big dogs age faster?
Large breeds grow quickly and their bodies wear out sooner, so their life expectancy is shorter than that of small breeds.
